Griffon Vulture Sampling

🦅 This week, we had the opportunity to visit the Griffon Vultures (Gyps fulvus) cared for in the rehabilitation centres of Jadovnik Citizens' Association and the Special Nature Reserve Uvac.

Located in southwestern Serbia, the Uvac Special Nature Reserve and the Miloševka River Canyon Special Nature Reserve are home to one of the largest Griffon Vulture colonies in the region. 🌿

The recovery of Griffon Vulture populations in Serbia and across the Balkans is a great example of what can be achieved through cooperation of different institutions. The AVIATOR project provides an opportunity to bring these different stakeholders together, strengthen communication and cooperation, and connect wildlife conservation with wildlife health surveillance. 🤝🦅

With West Nile fever currently circulating in Serbia and the region, the health status of birds in the rehabilitation centres will be assessed as part of the AVIATOR project, helping us better understand and protect the health of these magnificent birds. Because protecting wildlife is not the work of one institution or one profession — it takes all of us working together. 💚
