A New Step in Protecting Birds of Prey from West Nile Virus

🦅 Protecting birds of prey starts with protecting their health.

Through the AVIATOR project, birds of prey in captivity have been given access to vaccination against West Nile virus in countries where the relevant vaccine was not registered or otherwise available.

This is an important step towards improving the health protection of captive birds of prey and reducing the risk of diseases that can threaten individual birds and, potentially, wild populations.

Thanks to the collaboration between AVIATOR partners and relevant institutions, the vaccine was made available and birds in zoos, rehabilitation centres and other captive facilities could receive this important protection. 💚

Because wildlife conservation is not only about protecting habitats — protecting animal health is an essential part of conservation too.
