PilotInnCities Project Workshop of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (Bratislava, Slovakia)

The PilotInnCities project, aimed at fostering innovation ecosystems for smart cities, was prominently featured at the International Capitalization Workshop of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region. This event provided a platform for sharing insights and strategies to enhance urban development across the Danube region.

Representatives from the Ministry of Investments, Regional Development, and Informatization of the Slovak Republic (MIRRI SR) presented the project's objectives and progress. PilotInnCities focuses on establishing supportive mechanisms for agile piloting, encouraging municipalities to serve as testbeds for new technologies. The ultimate goal is to bridge the gap between smart city solution providers, primarily SMEs, and municipalities, facilitating the swift adoption and scaling of innovative solutions.

A significant milestone for the project is the upcoming open call for agile pilot projects in smart cities, set to launch in February 2025. This initiative aims to connect solution providers with municipalities based on identified needs, with the Slovak Association of Towns and Villages (ZMOS) overseeing the call. The project plans to support 4 to 8 pilot projects in each participating country, including Slovakia. Start-ups and innovative SMEs with solutions capable of transforming urban environments are encouraged to apply for funding of up to €20,000 for their pilot implementations. Municipalities participating in the program will gain access to cutting-edge technologies, expert collaborations, and increased international visibility.

PilotInnCities is funded by the Interreg Danube program and involves partners from Germany, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Czech Republic. The project benefits from the collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic and the Ministry of Regional Development of the Czech Republic. In Slovakia, MIRRI SR collaborates with ZMOS and the Public Procurement Office as an associated strategic partner.
